Installation Instructions for
GMX MAGNETIC FLUID FUEL DEVICES
On small vehicles, use 1 GMX Model 400. Place the unit at least 8-12 inches upstream from the area to be treated. Place it 8-12 inches after any pump, filter, or other turbulence causing device. The direction of flow of the fluid being treated does not make any difference.
Place the unit 6-12 inches away from any high heat sources, for example, the manifold and exhaust system. Place it 12 inches away from the diagnostic control centers and sensors. The unit should be mounted on the fuel line after the filter, before the carburetor. On fuel injected engines, mount the unit on the line to the engine, not the return line.
On midsize vehicles, sport utility vehicles, pickups, diesel pickups, buses, motor homes--follow the above directions, but install 2 GMX Model 400s instead of one. Place the units in tandem.
For semi trucks--install 1 GMX Model 800 and 1 GMX Model 400. Place the GMX Model 800 on the main fuel line between the fuel tank and the engine's fuel transfer pump. Place the GMX Model 400 between the fuel transfer pump and the fuel injection pump manifold.
REVERSE OSMOSIS
There are several applications where Reverse Osmosis (R.O) systems are employed, as there are other problems apart from hardness. RO systems remove the minerals from the raw water, but when hardness is present, there can be complications. Invariably, the RO membrane itself gets choked with scale and this makes it perform inefficiently. The life of the membrane is greatly reduced and requires constant replacement. This leads to increased maintenance costs and decreased efficiency.
When GMX is fitted on the feeder line to the RO system, before the membrane, it has been observed that GMX greatly improves the life of the membrane. Thus GMX protects the RO system and improves its efficiency. It should be noted that RO systems are very expensive; therefore GMX is an investment that protects the system.
AGRICULTURAL APPLICATIONS
BOILERS
The magnetic fluid treatment units should be installed on the boiler water feed line between the boiler water feed pump and the boiler. All boilers are plumbed in steel pipe. A section of pipe approximately 24" long must be removed and replaced with a non-ferrous section, e.e. copper of non-ferrous (300 series) Stainless Steel. The magnets are to be installed on this copper pipe. If the boiler uses large quantities of make up water, an additional magnetic unit should be installed on the make up water lines.
If the boiler has existing scale when the magnets are installed, expect the total dissolved solids (t.d.s.) to show an increase in a water test. This is due to the scale being removed from the boiler. Water in the sight glass of a steam boiler will exhibit a light turbidity, the color of rusty mud. This is normal and desirable. When the boiler is opened for inspections, this same material seen in the sight glass will have formed a thin coating on the boiler tubes. This coating is easily wiped or rinsed off, and has no insulating properties. It does not inhibit heat transfer. However, this coating will help protect the boiler tubes from corrosion and oxygen damage.
After approximately four days to two weeks, the magnets will start to remove any existing scale. The residue will be visible in the blow down water. When the water again runs clear, the boiler should be free of all scale. Temperature variation between water temperature and stack temperature should stabilize at 150 degrees. This is another indication that the boiler is now scale free. Hot water boilers will exhibit a similar presence of removed scale in the blow down process. The blow down water may develop a slight reddish brown color during the first few seconds of blow down. Again this is normal and desirable and an indication that the magnets are functioning as designed.
Any existing scale will be removed, and no further accumulation should occur. Greatly improved heat transfer means a reduction of fuel needed to heat water and cost reduction. Maintenance cost will also be reduced. Since scale can cause hot spots and premature tube failure, boiler life will be extended. The need for chemicals can be greatly reduced or eliminated with a result of additional cost savings and environmental benefits.
COOLING TOWERS
Magnetic treatment assemblies should be placed on the pipe that feeds water to the section of the heat exchanger that has the scale problem. The assemblies should be installed on non-ferrous pipe (copper, PVC or stainless steel) only. If the heat exchanger is plumbed in steel, a minimum 24" section of the pipe should be removed and replaced with copper. The assemblies should be installed, if possible, one foot to three feet before the heat exchanger.
The common problems faced by cooling tower industries are scale and algae formation and corrosion. They have to use different chemicals to control the above three factors.
Installation of GMX fluid conditioners is the permanent solution for protecting the pipelines from scale formation, corrosion and algae formation. The need for chemicals can be eliminated with a result of additional cost savings and environmental benefits. As GMX fluid conditioners removes existing scales and Algae and prevents further formation of scale, the life of cooling towers will be extended and the maintenance cost will also be reduced.
